Biography of Mark Brouwer
Mark Brouwer is a passionate advocate for men who want to live with purity in an impure world. He has ministered in variety of capacities: as a musician, pastor, church planter, counselor and trainer. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Concordia College, in Moorhead, Minnesota; and received his Master of Divinity (cum laude) from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. More recently, he is a graduate of Coach University (in the Core Essentials Program for Life and Leadership Coaching).
Mark has been the founding pastor of two churches: In 1992 he started North Austin Community Church in Austin, Texas (a daughter church of Sunrise Christian Reformed Church, in Austin). In 1998, he started Bridgewood Church in Savage, Minnesota (a daughter church of Wooddale Church, in Eden Prairie). He has served on the Home Mission Board of the Christian Reformed Church, consulted with many church planters, and written articles on leadership for such magazines as The Banner, and Leadership Journal. He is contributing author of A Christian Handbook of Abuse, Addiction, and Difficult Issues, and is coauthor of Sexual Addiction and Internet Pornography from Kevin Mayhew Publishing.
Early in 2006, Mark left his role as senior pastor of Bridgewood Church to partner with Dr. Mark Laaser in his work with men struggling with sexual purity. Since that time, he as served as Director of Training for Faithful and True Ministries, an organization devoted to helping people recover from sex addiction, and training pastors and clinicians to better deal with this growing problem.
He is also the director of Recovery Remixed, an organization devoted to applying timeless recovery wisdom to today’s challenges. Recovery Remixed offers resources, teaching, counseling, leadership and recovery coaching (done over the phone), and teleseminars. It’s two-fold focus is: (1) people who want to live with sexual sanity in our sexually-overcharged world, and (2) leaders who want to expand their leadership without shrinking their souls. In addition to teaching in churches and conducting workshops and teleseminars, Mark currently leads five to six coaching groups each week, some for church leaders, and some for recovering sexual strugglers.
In his work with Faithful and True and Recovery Remixed, Mark has helped hundreds of men take their next step towards recovery. He lives with his wife Charlene and their two sons in Savage, Minnesota.
